Epoxy primer

What is epoxy primer?

This primer is made of epoxy resin, which you need to process in combination with the appropriate hardener. It is very durable and resistant to chemicals, water and abrasion.

There are different uses for epoxy primer, depending on the type of material you want to treat and the properties you want to achieve.

Applications for epoxy primer

1. Metal
   Epoxy primer is often used on metals to protect the surface from rusting. The primer can also be used to fill in small imperfections and damages on the surface, making it easier to paint the metal surface.


2. Wood
   Epoxy primer can be used on wood to protect the surface from water and moisture penetration. The primer can also be used to fill small imperfections on the wood, making it easier to varnish or paint the wood.

   Epoxy primer can be used on plastic to protect the surface from UV radiation and discoloration. The primer can also be used to cover up damage.


2. Concrete
   Epoxy primer can be used on concrete to protect the surface from water and moisture penetration and to further finish with a paint.

How do I apply epoxy primer?

There are several ways an epoxy primer can be applied, depending on the type of material and the result you want to achieve. For example, the primer can be applied with a brush, roller or spray gun. It is important to follow the instructions for use of the epoxy primer for best results. To do this, use the correct and specified mixing ratio. If you are using a thinner, it is important to use the correct type, according to how you are going to process the epoxy primer. For example, thinner is different for a brush or spray application.

Some epoxy thinners also provide protection against osmosis. Osmosis is an attack on a polyester laminate when there is a high water load. Examples are boats below the waterline or swimming pools. Multiple coats of epoxy primer provide a vapor-tight layer, preventing water vapor from penetrating the polyester laminate.

Can I paint over epoxy primer?

Epoxy primer, in most cases, can be painted over with different types of paints or lacquers. For example, two-component polyurethane paints are usually recommended for applications to boats. Furthermore, there are also anti-corrosion primers, with additional additives that allow them to provide better protection on metal and aluminum against rust or corrosion formation.
